When you buy a vehicle from an American brand, do you ever wonder how much of it is actually made in America? If so, you now have your answer, since both Cars.com and the American University Kogod School of Business recently released studies that answer the question. Their efforts concluded that GM and Chevy vehicles are the most American-made of them all.
In order to compile their 2020 American-Made Index, Cars.com looked at the location of assembly, the number of U.S. manufacturing employees, the number of parts from the U.S. and Canada, and the origin of engines and transmissions across 91 different vehicles. GM had nine models placed in the top 25 alone—more than any other brand. The Chevrolet Corvette, which is made in Bowling Green, KY, ranked 8th on the index.
American University Kogod School of Business releases a Made in America Auto Index each year. Their vehicles are rated based on the origin of major parts, and the location of the assembly. Their 2020 index had 10 GM models in its top 25. As with the Cars.com American-Made Index, there were more GM vehicles in the top 25 than any other automaker, proving that GM is committed to investing in the U.S.
